Volunteer Opportunity for Planning Commission
Gearhart is taking applications for the Planning Commission. ONE seat has been vacated and will be appointed at the December City Council meeting. Applicants will need to complete and return an application by 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 22nd, 2024. Applicants will also need to be present for interviews at 6:30 p.m. during the December 4th City Council Meeting, in person at City Hall, or via zoom.
The planning commission consists of seven volunteer, voting members to be appointed by the Mayor with the concurrence of a majority of the City Council.
The term of office for a member shall be four years, with terms expiring on November 30th of the fourth year after appointment. Planning commission meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Occasionally the planning commission will hold an additional work session.
Members of the planning commission will be chosen from the residents or the property owners within the city and urban growth boundary.
The planning commission shall study the subdivision of land and make recommendations to the City Council, public officials, and to individuals regarding land use, location of thoroughfares, public buildings, parks, and other public facilities. The planning commission also studies any other matter relating to the planning and development of the city and surrounding areas.

Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22nd due to the Thanksgiving holiday the week prior to the meeting. The interview questions are for preparation purposes only and are not to be returned with the application.
